The Heroic Hearts Project (HHP) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping U.S. military veterans and their families heal from the impacts of military trauma, particularly Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
HHP's core mission revolves around connecting veterans with psychedelic-assisted therapies, including plant medicines like ayahuasca and psilocybin, as well as ketamine treatments. They facilitate access to these therapies, often in countries where they are legal (like Peru, Mexico, Jamaica), and increasingly in U.S. states where they have been decriminalized or made accessible for therapeutic use (like Oregon and Colorado).
HHP provides a holistic program that goes beyond just connecting veterans to retreats. This includes:
- Rigorous Screening and Preparation: A thorough process to ensure participant safety and readiness for psychedelic experiences.
- Professional Coaching: Pre-retreat and post-retreat coaching sessions (individual and group) to help veterans prepare for the experience and integrate their insights into lasting healing and positive change.
- Community Support: Building a supportive community for veterans throughout their healing journey.
The organization was founded in 2017 by Jesse Gould, a former Army Ranger who experienced significant relief from his own PTSD symptoms after engaging in ayahuasca ceremonies. His personal journey inspired the creation of HHP to help other veterans.
